I'm sorry to say that, as someone who was homeschooled growing up, and who attended a Christian co-op, I don't personally have experience with this problem. My personal experience it totally divorced from the public school (heck, even the private/Catholic/Christian school) ecosystem.

The most fraught class I ever had regarding anything ideological or philosophical was a creative writing class taught by a very liberal instructor who, our numerous, vocal disagreements on political issues aside, deeply inspired me to educate myself about the craft of writing and storytelling and to engage seriously with the topic. I didn't learn everything I know about writing from her, but she did contribute to getting that particular ball rolling. Anyhow, that's my story.

It's so real: one teacher can make a huge difference. And it's not necessarily the one we might expect. Sometimes aligning too much gets in the way of growth.
